Unfortunately, so far there’s only been one official game based on the books so far (and it’s
somewhat lackluster), which means we’ve found
ourselves turning to mods to help us
satisfy our Joffrey-slapping urges.
Fortunately, we’re not the only
ones who have felt the lack, so
thanks to Sparehawk, whose
Mount & Blade: A Song of Ice and
Fire Mod is the perfect way to
explore the world of Westeros,
rally to the banner of a king and
fight off the Others.
It’s hard to talk about the story
without spoiling things for the slowpokes
who haven’t read all the books yet, but let’s just
say that this mod takes place after the death of
[REDAC TED] and [REDAC TED] and features the
war between [REDAC TED] and [REDAC TED],
although there are sadly no [REDAC TED].
Five Westeros factions have been adapted into
the game: the Starks, Lannisters, Martells,
Tyrells, and Baratheons. Each of the families
comes with its very own troop tree, and various
lords and hireable heroes around the land have
also been replaced with characters who are
authentic to the books.
One of the most impressive aspects of this
mod is how it deals with the implementa-
tion of the Others. There’s the icy Wall
to the far north, and parties of
Others lurk behind it, but as the
long seasons shift into winter, the
Others spawn more often and
begin to move south.
You’ll need the original Mount
& Blade (not the 2011 spinoff With
Fire & Sword) to play this, although
there is a project to convert it over to
2010’s Mount & Blade: Warband.
Specifically you’ll need version 0.903, which can

gotten everything installed, then enjoy taking
down the younger Lannister monarch like he
