EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL
We bring you the
inside scoop on
new frantic,
League of
Legends’
action-packed
capture-point
game mode
by Josh Augustine with Lucas Sullivan
Health packs and speed boosts litter the field; players are capturing towers to complete quests; not a
single destructible structure is in sight. Toto,
I’ve got a feeling we’re not in DotA anymore.
And that, it turns out, is a very good thing.
It’s been eight years since the player-made Warcraft III map Defense of the
Ancients popularized its classic MOBA
(multiplayer online battle arena) gameplay.
Part action-RPG, part RTS, we absolutely
love its addictiveness. But, almost a decade
later, we’re starting to crave some variety.
Dominion is the spice of life we’ve been
looking for. League of Legends’ new gameplay mode, which should be going live
around the time you read this, ditches all
the convoluted, unintuitive mechanics
found in the old DotA-style maps, and
trades ‘em in for fast-paced control-point
combat, like World of Warcraft’s Arathi
Basin with a triple-shot of adrenaline.
